Professional cricketer, legendary commentator, master storyteller … Robin Jackman is a man of many talents.
Born in British India but growing up in England, ‘Jackers’ made his professional debut for Surrey in 1966 and played for the side until his retirement in 1982, helping them to the 1971 County Championship.
He played 15 ODIs for England and also managed four Tests, having been picked as a replacement for the injured Bob Willis at the ripe old age of 35.
A fine medium-fast seam bowler, he also had spells with Western Province and Rhodesia, eventually finishing with 1 402 first-class wickets, 121 which came in 1980, leading to Wisden naming him one of their Cricketers of the Year.
His connections with Southern Africa saw him move to South Africa, where he became one of the most recognizable voices on local airwaves until his retirement in 2015.
